02Signing up and signing in
2.1Ways to sign up
| Method | How | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Enter email → receive code → set password | Universal; safest when switching phones | |
| Phone number | Enter number → receive SMS code | Mainland China and Southeast Asia (SMS routes vary by region) |
| Sign in with Apple | One tap; can hide your real email | iOS users |
| Sign in with Google | One tap | Android / international users |
Suggestion: sign up with email or phone first, then link Apple / Google in settings. That way changing device or platform won't cost you the account.
2.2Birth details (the most important section in this guide)
Eighty percent of how accurate your chart is comes down to this.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Date of birth | Yes | Gregorian, year-month-day |
| Hour of birth | Strongly advised | Twelve two-hour periods (shi chen) |
| Place of birth | Strongly advised | Any city worldwide. Used for timezone and true solar time correction; required if born outside China |
| Gender | Yes | Determines the direction of decade cycles |
About the hour
The hour determines the "hour pillar", one of the four pillars — missing it affects roughly a quarter of the reading
Not sure of the exact time? Pick the nearest period — "around three or four in the afternoon" → the hour of Shen
No idea at all? Choose "hour unknown". Most chapters are unaffected, and chapters sensitive to the hour are explicitly marked "accuracy limited"
About the place of birth
True solar time correction converts clock time into local solar time using the longitude of your birthplace. Fifteen minutes can change the hour pillar by a whole character, so fill it in if you can — city level is enough.
Born outside China (North America / Southeast Asia / Europe, etc.)
Enter the local date and time at your birthplace
Select the actual city you were born in
⚠️ Do not convert the time to Beijing time. The system corrects automatically from "local time + birthplace longitude"; converting it yourself means the correction happens twice — and the chart is wrong
Wrong hour pillars are more common among overseas births than domestic ones. The reason is simple: a timezone difference often straddles exactly one two-hour period. If you were born in New York and entered Beijing time, the hour pillar is very likely already wrong.
Born in mainland China
The whole country keeps Beijing time, but the land spans five timezones. The actual solar time gap between Urumqi and Shanghai is close to two hours — the same "8 a.m." can fall into different periods in the two cities. So the birthplace is not optional.
Daylight saving time
Enter the time as it appeared on the clock, you don't need to subtract an hour. The system applies historical timezone rules automatically (the US, Europe and Australia have all used DST).
City not listed?
Pick the nearest city of the same level; the error is usually within one two-hour period. If your birthplace sits near a timezone border, prefer a city on the same longitude.
2.3Can I correct my birth details?
| Situation | Editable? |
|---|---|
| Just registered, no report yet | Yes, any time |
| Book already generated | Yes, but existing reports do not update automatically; you need to regenerate (costs credits) |
| Active membership | Same as above; regeneration doesn't cost extra (included) |
Advice: get it right the first time. Changing your birth date invalidates every report generated before.
2.4Invitation codes
When a friend invites you, enter their code and both sides receive credits:
You (the invitee): 200 credits on registration
Them (the inviter): 200 credits when you register, another 300 when you subscribe
Find your code under Me → Invite friends, or share the invite link directly.
2.5Can't sign in?
| Symptom | Try this first |
|---|---|
| No verification code | Check spam; wait 60 seconds and resend; switch networks (some carriers block) |
| "Account not found" | You may have registered another way (e.g. Apple's hidden email) — try that method |
| Data gone after changing phones | Most likely a different account — see 13.1 |
| Forgot password | Recover via email or phone; third-party sign-in accounts have no password |
